Paris St-Germain 1-0 Girona: Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga gifts French side victory

Lack of sharpness costs hosts as Gazzaniga howler proves costly

Paris St-Germain picked up a 1-0 win over Girona in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The only goal of the game came 10 minutes in as former Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga gifted PSG the lead by failing to control a backpass. PSG created a host of other chances but could not add to their lead as the lack of sharpness in front of goal from the hosts proved costly.

Wasteful PSG held by Girona after Gazzaniga error

Despite the victory, the performance of the French champions was far from convincing. They dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge in the final third. The Ligue 1 champions were without the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi, who are still on holiday following their involvement in the Copa America. New signing Vitinha started the game in midfield but was not able to make much of an impact.

Mbappe and Messi are expected to return to training next week, while Neymar is due back at the end of July. The French side will be hoping that the return of their star players will help them to improve their form in front of goal.

PSG will now turn their attention to their next pre-season game, which will take place against Sevilla on Wednesday. They will then face Nantes in the Trophee des Champions on July 31.
